George Gallup was an American pioneer of survey sampling techniques and inventor of the Gallup poll, a successful statistical method of survey sampling for measuring public opinion.
One of the earliest members of this club was a young A. C. Nielsen. At a meeting in the early 1930’s, he watched a presentation by an MIT engineer detailing a new system for measuring and recording individual radio listening. In partnership with the engineer, A.C. Wilson, Nielsen started building his company on measuring radio audiences’ listening behavior and selling the data to advertisers and networks. Today A. C. Nielsen is the largest research company in the world.
