Rethinking the Future of Polling: Lessons Learned in 2024

Overview

How confident were you in predicting the 2024 US presidential election? Would you have wagered $30 Million?

Contrary to some accounts, the polls were not necessarily wrong, but all states deemed too close to call went to Trump, many at margins wider than previous elections.

While traditional horse-race polling was inconclusive, some alternative methods did a better job at anticipating the eventual outcome. In our March session we will hear from two MRC members who asked unique questions to unique panelists.

Ashley Grosse, EVP at YouGov, will tell us about her experience asking respondents who they thought their neighbors were planning to vote for and how this question outperformed the traditional vote choice question and helped a client in France turn a $30 Million wager into $85 Million.

Diane Hessan, MRC Hall of Fame honoree and Chairman at C-Space, will share her experience talking regularly with hundreds of voters and explain why traditional polling seems to repeatedly miss the mark.

We invite members and friends of the MRC to come with questions for these innovators in political polling.

We will be joined by the following panelists:
