It could be said that 2020 was a ‘wake up’ year for America where the issue of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) was concerned. The murder of George Floyd was, in many ways, the final straw for communities long afflicted by racism and discrimination, while the 2020 Census revealed an America becoming radically different in its racial, social and cultural makeup than existed even a decade earlier. The confluence of these two factors ignited a conversation throughout society about what DEI means and how it applies to the way in which we live – including in business.

This conversation extends in multiple relevant ways to the insights industry. Not only does it shine a spotlight on the makeup of our own sphere of life, it begs the question of how we manage our businesses and, in particular, of how we practice research itself.

Join moderator Simon Chadwick, Managing Partner at Cambiar Consulting, for a searching discussion about DEI in research with Jackie Chan, Head of Research, Business Messaging at Meta (formerly Facebook); Sandra Grandsoult, Co-Creator and Founder of DEI consulting firm, Equitas Insight; Michaela Mora, Founder of Relevant Insights; and Matt O’Grady, until recently Global MD at Nielsen Media.

The panel will discuss:

  • How is / should inclusion, diversity, equity and access be defined in the realm of market and media research?
  • How far have we come and how far do we have to go?
  • Their personal journeys, experiences and learning about DEI in their careers
  • Dealing with our biases, institutionally and individually
  • Where now? What frameworks exist that MRC members could use to advance DEI in their own roles?

We’ll examine DEI as a driving force not only in our own organizations but also in the design and execution of our research and how we discuss its importance with our stakeholders.

Please join us with a guest for what will be a provocative, honest discussion about one of the most important aspects of modern life.
