On August 26, 2020, the MRC hosted a virtual event with Kantar Chief Knowledge Officer J. Walker Smith, who shared a framework for figuring out the new and the not-new, with examples drawn from the current Coronavirus pandemic and what it might mean for the future.
Smith addressed how marketplace disruptions have happened before, and in the heat of the moment, it always seems as if everything will be different from this moment on. Something always changes, of course, but invariably there is less change than predicted. In these moments of uncertainty, risks are over-estimated and opportunities overlooked. Smith’s presentation took a deep dive into how marketers can see more clearly through the fog and mitigate the real risks and seize the opportunities of a generation.
